TWO MINUTE DEVOTION with Pastor Bob Rieth
Hope is in the Lord
What are you facing today? What opportunity or challenge is waiting for your decision? What situation or problem are you confronting?
I feel honoured to be able to talk with people about the hard issues of life. Most people really are not “Just fine, thank you.”
Small talk is our veil of protection against confronting our realities. We try to protect ourselves from our own raw emotions as well as from those people who are causing us pain.
Fear and guilt are the two most debilitating emotions in our life. Either one can immobilize us. Many times people are brought to the place of not answering or returning phone calls; some spend days in bed just withdrawing from the world until they can regain the strength to face the world.
Our struggles can be the result of personal relationships, of problems at work; of financial stress, or our fear of the future.
Real difficulties can be overcome. It is the imaginary ones that are unconquerable.
I find that people are more anxious while they are waiting for the results of a test than they are after a medical problem is found. When we know the facts about a situation, we can start on a course of action. Not knowing leaves us adrift in a fog. Our human nature wants to be able to fix things, or explain them, or justify them, but there are times when we do not and cannot know.
We can overcome our fear through reading the Word, through prayer and through Christian fellowship. We need to get adequate amounts of rest and to eat and drink properly. Most of all, we need to put our trust in our Heavenly Father and watch in hope for the Lord.
But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me.
Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will rise.
Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.
