    Technology and child safety

Does anyone think there is any merit in this idea of implanting a microchip in your child's arm, enabling you to track their whereabouts? To my mind, it's just plain daft: 1 Your relationship with your child depends on communication 2 You may know where they are, but you won't know if they're in trouble without other forms of communication 3 Ground rules laid down between you and regularly emphasised with a healthy helping of common sense and trust can minimise the risks 4 Technology like this encourages lazy parenting - where people just 'let the technology do the work' 5 Technology can go wrong! Any other thoughts,

Personally I don't see any merit in the idea whatsoever. There is very little basis for permitting an assault on any individual which is what I see this as.

    Not for me...

Actually I think for little kids they might be useful. Our youngest when she was 2 or 3 was always wandering off, we live in an open plan complex, so there were lots of places I had to search for her, and when we went camping, we just had to turn our backs for 1 minute and she was off again. I would prefer a bracelet rather than an implant though, and It probabaly is not so good for older children for the reasons you gave.
