LIFE condemns family planning booklet

LIFE, the UK’s leading prolife charity, is outraged at the Family Planning Association’s latest publication, 4 You – a 'sex education' booklet aimed at children aged 9 to 11.

Nuala Scarisbrick, LIFE Trustee commented: "This leaflet depicts, among other things, a girl masturbating in the bath and a diagram showing where the clitoris is. Most normal parents will be disgusted by this.

"This is nothing more than government-backed child sexual abuse, funded by the taxpayer. It is a cynical attempt to manipulate children and rob them of their childhood innocence. It is a form of paedophilia.

"Is there not something particularly nasty about the use of cartoons to deliver overtly sexual messages to children?

"LIFE’s relationships education programme for children in that age group simply shows the development of the baby in the womb and focuses on the awe and wonder of new human life. Young children do not need or want any other information, and if they do then it is up to parents to tell them appropriately.

"This type of explicit sex education is being pushed by the Government – a Government led by a man who professes to be a family man and a Christian. It is unlikely that he would subject his own children to such abuse so why is he encouraging the abuse of a whole generation?

"Young people are beset by problems that are as a direct result of this Government’s liberal sex education policies. STIs are at epidemic levels, abortion rates continue to climb, and more and more children view sex simply as "sport". They are being denied a proper education that places sex within the context of love, new life and family, and being denied the chance to have proper, innocent, carefree childhoods.

"LIFE calls upon the Government and the Family Planning Association to back down on its sex education policies and to encourage children to value their childhoods and themselves. Booklets like 4 You cheapen and demean the very people they are intended to educate."
