> 1,000-mile walk for YFC student project

One hundred Youth for Christ (YFC) staff, volunteers and supporters will collectively walk more than 1,000 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats on 6 June. They'll be aiming to raise £10,000 towards a new student project that police say has dramatically reduced crime in Crieff.

The three mass sponsored walks will take place in the Cleveland Hills in the north-east of England, at Cannock Chase in the West Midlands and on the dunstable Downs in the south-east. Part of the money raised will help to fund YFC's Integrate programme for gap-year students in Crieff that has led to a 25% reduction in reported crime.

National Director Roy Crowne said: "Young people are under more pressure than ever, as they make decisions that will redefine their lives. In walking 1,000 miles, we will take three million steps, one for every 11-14 year-old in the UK, whom we are seeking to reach out to in relevant ways with the Christian message."

> Diocese launches 'mission-shaped' website

The Anglican diocese of Portsmouth has relaunched its website to tap into the spirituality of today's generation, often more comfortable on the computers than in a church.

Visitors to www.portsmouth.anglican.org can

  • ask for prayer
  • find out answers to their spiritual questions
  • read the Gospel story about Jesus in contemporary language
  • find their local church
  • read real-life stories of people with faith from around the diocese
  • find out how the Church can help them with life events

The diocese, which includes 140 parishes in south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, aims to use the redesigned 'mission-shaped' website to those who don't normally come to church.

> New booklet for carers of people with learning disabilities

The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities has launched a new booklet for carers of people with learning disabilities.

No Box To Tick comes in response to the findings of a research project by the Foundation, which discovered that many carers spend a lot of time helping those with learning disabilities meet their physical needs, leaving little time to care for their spiritual and emotional needs.

IN BRIEF:

> Fresh expressions of Church needed, says Church Army chief

The Church must stop simply waiting for young people to return to the fold, Church Army chief secretary Philip Johanson. Speaking at the Christian Resources Exhibition recently at Sandown Park, Surrey, he said it was vital to recognise the need for fresh expressions of church. "Emerging church must be shaped by the mission content of today and not as churchgoers might prefer it to be,” he said. “We must listen to the people - the 60% who consider themselves as not connected with the Church.”
