Children 'not a consumer accessory'
An Anglican Bishop has hit out at the idea of gender selection in the interests of 'family balancing', mentioned in a Commons select committee report on Human Reproductive Technologies and the Law.
Bishop of Southwark the Rev Tom Butler, vice-chairman of the Church of England's Mission and Public Affairs Council, said: "Sex selection for social reasons would have serious consequences for society as well as for families. A child is a gift from God and should always be regarded as an individual, not as an extension of parental consumer choice."
Confirmed: quads go in the record books
History was made in a village church on the borders of County Durham and North Yorkshire on 20 March when identical quads were confirmed by the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds.
The Rt Rev John Packer was at the church of St Giles in Bowes to confirm seven young people from Bowes and six from Startforth, including identical 11-year-old sisters, Rebecca, Laura, Kirsty and Emma Guy.

Crusaders target 10,000 youngsters with new tour
A new 12-date tour dubbed No Turning Back will be making its way around the UK during April and May.
It hopes to connect with more than 10,000 young people on the subject of faith and discipleship, and is being organised by the youth and children's missionary movement Crusaders with Top Dog Promotions.
