TWO-MINUTE DEVOTION
with Pastor Bob Rieth
Summer is a time for building. Building for the future requires a plan, a budget and a commitment. You must be willing to make the required investment in time, effort and financial resources.
You have all read, and probably sung, about the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. Luke 6:46-49.
The foolish man didn’t just say: "I’ll build my house on the sand." Perhaps the view was incredible, the price was low, the salesman was persuasive, the neighbourhood was ‘upscale’. There were, I am sure, some good reasons to build where he did.
What things should he have considered when choosing the location for his building?
Test the soil, consider the stability of the hillside, think of the danger of fire or floods, look at the influences that will come because of the neighborhood.
Of course you know that I am not just talking about wood and brick. What should you consider when choosing the location and foundation for your life?
You are building for the future in your career, as you choose your spouse, how you invest your time and money and how you set your priorities.
Consider both the short-term benefits and the long-term effects. How will your decisions affect your spiritual life? How will what you do today affect the legacy you leave?
What did the wise man gain because he chose to build on a firm foundation?
Consider the results of following the wrong plan. YOU are a building under construction. GOD is the ultimate architect. His plan for your life is perfect. He is in the business of building, and rebuilding, lives.
Jeremiah 29:11 says: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
