DEVOTIONAL
Pastor Bob Rieth - Two Minute Devotion
Two tragedies took place near our family this week that have reminded me how important it is for us to be ready to stand before the Lord.
The first incident happened four houses away from our daughter, Renae. In the midst of a divorce, the husband shot his wife and himself. The three boys in the family are about the same ages as Renae’s three sons and have grown up together. The mother was active in her church and volunteered at the school. “She was our lunch room lady,” Brett said. There had been no sign of this coming and the neighbourhood is in shock.
The second incident took place Friday night at the convenience store down the road from us (where our son, Paul, had worked a number of years ago). A man came in, shot the night manager, and ran into the neighbourhood firing shots and knocking on doors.
I share these incidents because they point out the uncertainty of our life. We have no guarantee on the number of our days; not for ourselves nor for our loved ones. If we have been putting off making a decision for Christ, let me urge you to settle this matter now, while you have the opportunity.
If you have been putting off sharing Christ with your friends, family or neighbors, let me encourage you to speak now, while you have the chance.
We talk a lot about having faith and living a Christian life; but has anyone ever told you how to become a Christian? There are three things we must do.
First, admit that we are a sinner and that we need God’s forgiveness. Second, understand that the price for our salvation has already been paid by Jesus Christ on the cross. Third, ask Jesus to come into your heart and become Lord of your life.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me." Revelations 3:20
If you feel that the Lord is touching your heart as you read this, he is calling you. Here is a simple prayer that I pray when introducing someone to Jesus Christ.
Dear Lord, thank you for loving me and giving me life.
I confess that I am a sinner and that I am lost without your forgiveness.
Please come into my heart and forgive my sins.
Thank you that you hear my prayer and that you have come into my heart.
Please help me to love you and to serve you all the days of my life. Amen
If Jesus was speaking to you today, please write and let us be praying for you.
