God's promises still stand
- A
husband to the widow ... Christian testimony as told to PAULINE
LEWIS
Maybe
there are others who fear widowhood. I felt it was not by chance that
Peggy Grisdale shared this lovely story.
In the ministry with her husband for many years, she is proving the
Lord in her widowhood. Though her present pastor had worked in central
heating, he had failed to find the fault in her boiler. A neighbour,
coming in to help, told her: Youll have to phone the gas
board.
Left alone, suddenly she knew she could call on God. Standing up she
prayed out loud, Lord, if I get a big bill I may not be able
to pay it. If my Joe had been here he would have fixed it. Youve
promised to be a husband to the widow, so its over to you.
Within two hours all the radiators were on. No, she told
her neighbour, I didnt call the gas board. I went to a
higher authority.
She told me of the night she could not sleep, overwhelmed with longing
for her husband. Next morning, so heavy in spirit, she set out to
have a chat with a friend. That would put her right but the
friend was not in.
Walking sadly home, she heard a voice, clear and plain, telling her:
Look up. As she looked, a rainbow arched right over her.
Within the brilliant colours were beautiful green fields and at the
top what appeared to be white marble.
Again God spoke, clear and plain: After all these years my promise
still stands.
There was not a soul about. Her dog sat quietly at her side. The traffic
was still, and when at last, unwillingly, she turned to go, the rainbow
disappeared. Could it be, Lillian wondered, that she was given a glimpse
of the rainbow-circled throne of God?
Now well in her eighties, Peggy is growing old gracefully, living
in the light of heaven.
