Plenty of conviction

New Wine Worship 11 – Nothing is as Wonderful, ICC £14.99

THERE’S more than first meets the eye to this latest release from New Wine – from the inlay card you’d think it’s just a 13-song, studio-recorded worship album. Closer inspection reveals a second ‘live’ CD – highlights from last year’s New Wine events.

For the studio set, worship leader Scott Underwood is in the driving seat for seven songs, five of which he penned himself. Opener Lord You Never Promised is a solo acoustic number, but the energy builds on both You Are In Control and Brian Doerkson’s Your Name Is Holy, which like the version on the acclaimed Vineyard album Hungry, also features singer Wendy O’Connell.

Soul Survivor boys Matt Redman and Tim Hughes handle the rest, with Tim leading a rousing rendition of Matt’s Thank You, Thank You For The Blood, and Matt pulling it back with O Sacred King and John Wimber’s Isn’t He Beautiful?

Kicking off, appropriately enough, with Come, Now Is The Time To Worship, the ‘live’ CD includes contributions from four different church worship teams.

There’s an airing for more Matt Redman material, and the hymn All People That On Earth Do Dwell makes a suitable ending. Less polish here perhaps, but plenty of conviction. Good value.
